5 Ways to Declutter your Mind

September 14, 2018

 1. PEN + PAPER

Sit down with a pen and paper and write out your thoughts. This is one of my favourite ways of mentally decluttering! It may feel silly at the time, but once you start writing it will all flow out onto paper. Reading back on what you have written not only gives you perspective but allows you to fully appreciate what your feeling.

2. FOCUS ON THINGS THAT MATTER

Write down the 3 most important things in your life right now and focus on them. Have you heard the saying “Jack of all trades and master of none?”. Without defining your goals so to speak we end up spending time trying to perfect and work towards so many different little things that in the end we never achieve or perfect any of them. What has this got to do with a decluttering your mind? It has everything to do with decluttering. As humans when we start to focus on one thing and then hit a brick wall it is very easy to get distracted and start another project. You start cluttering your mind with all sorts of information and completely forget to go back and finish the project you started. Before you know it you have a long list of unfinished projects/tasks/jobs and you feel overwhelmed at the thought of not accomplishing any of them. Make sure your stick your piece of paper with the 3 most important things on it somewhere you can see it everyday.

3.  KEEP GOOD COMPANY

Do the people you associate constantly moan, gossip and drag you down? If your answer is yes then its time for new circle of friends. An important part of decluttering your mind is keeping good company and having people around that will fill you with good thoughts and vibes. Positive Vibes Only!

4.  DETOX YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA

Unfollow anyone who doesn’t make you feel like your good enough. Social media plays an integral role in our society, and it’s an amazing platform to connect and express ourselves. However WE (myself included) can get so caught up in the beautiful photo shopped images, and videos of how peoples lives seem to be that we can forget exactly who we are as a individuals. Our minds get so cluttered with images of idealism and perfection, that we loose sight of what is real. Keep your social media following to accounts that encourage and build you up, not tear you down.

5.  NO SCREEN TIME

Dedicate time everyday to enjoy life without being glued to a screen. No mobile phone, iPad, laptop or television. Our minds are bombarded with so much information on a 24hr basis it’s no wonder we have a cluttered/overstimulated mind. We often miss out on half of what is going on around us as we are fixated on a screen. Set yourself a screen time challenge. For example, to not pull out your mobile phone whilst travelling to/from work for a day and see what new things you discover!
